(The Cast of Cheaters)

It Pays to Cheat in November.

It’s impossible to describe the madcap antics that take place when people decide to cheat on their spouses. But Playcrafters attempts to do just that in its fall production of Michael Jacobs’ comedy Cheaters. Director Jim Parise and producers Kathy Loizides and Des Burke have assembled a topnotch cast (Amelia Chiaramonte, Kim Esp, Ken Krummenacker, George Loizides, Jane Maushay and the director himself) to show us the comic pitfalls of marital infidelity. Performances will be at our theater space at the Bellport Middle School on November 7, 8, 14 and 15 at 8 PM. Tickets are $15 for adults and $12 for students and senior citizens and may be reserved by calling (631) 748-7863 or visiting our box office at Treasure Island Antiques, 136 Main Street, Bellport (open Thursday through Monday, 12 to 5 pm). Remember, ticket discounts may be obtained by using your recently received postcard, or one of our ads from the Long Island Advance or Suffolk Life.

A New Way To Close Summer

Our first "Picnic by the Bay" at Bellport Beach Property Owners Association, in East Patchogue was a delightful evening. The weather was perfect and the gazebo provided a charming atmosphere for dining and dancing. Great food, music, volleyball and company made for a terrific night during the setting sun and later under the stars. Based on your feedback, it may have been our first but probably not our last.

Social Committee

In an attempt to foster and encourage more theater going on Long Island, our social committee decided that each month we would try to attend productions by other Long Island theater companies. We started this past summer and have already seen two excellent shows: Oliver! at the CM Performing Arts Center in Oakdale (which featured Playcrafters’ Peter Morrison as Fagin and Debbie Starker as the Widow Corney) and 1776 at the Smithtown Center for the Performing Arts. This stellar production about our nation’s founding featured Playcrafters’ Rich Kleppan and John Tighe in pivotal roles. It is truly gratifying to see that such quality theater exists on Long Island. With our fall production taking all of our energy and attention this month, we have not yet scheduled our next theater outing, but check the website later this month for further information. If you have a suggestion for a subsequent "field trip", call us at (631) 748-7863 and leave your recommendation.

2004 Season

Playcrafters is currently trying to solidify its 2004 season and is actively looking for potential directors, musical directors, choreographers and producers. We welcome suggestions from potential directors/musical directors as to shows they may be interested in staging. All of these positions (except producer) are salaried. If you think you would be interested in working with us in one of these capacities please call us at 748-7863 or better yet send your resumé and list of proposed shows to Playcrafters, PO Box 452, Bellport, NY 11713-0452 or log onto our website and send us an e-mail with the same information.

New Website Flourishes

If you haven’t checked out our new website www.bellport-playcrafters.com be sure to do so. Thanks to Des Burke, you now have internet access to Playcrafters. Here you can find out who the Board members are, complete membership and scholarship lists and a list of all of the shows we have ever done. If you missed a newsletter, you will find copies of those most recently sent out. You can check the website for upcoming social activities. There is also a trivia section that deals with some aspect of theater history. You can even send us an e-mail from there and let us know what you think about our new step into the 21st century.

Personal Notes

On a personal level, Playcrafters would like to congratulate Kathie and Rich Dallin on the birth of their first grandson, Gavin. We also wish longtime Playcrafters Cheryl and Gary Sica good luck in their new home in North Carolina and hope they keep in touch with us regularly. Here’s another good way to use the e-mail feature of our new website!
