Annual Meeting A Success

On Sunday, Januay 25, 2004, a large crowd gathered at the Brown Building for our annual meeting. Des Burke, President for 2003, thanked outgoing board members, Brian Hannon, and Ted Fleissgarten for their hard work and dedication over the previous three years and welcomed the new board members: Geri D’Amico, Jane Love, and Al Rand. We also want to thank Des Burke, outgoing board member for his continued hard work and support of Playcrafters.   After the reading of the annual report, attendees were treated to a special presentation. George Loizides coordinated and directed various skits staring himself, Kim Esp, Katie Loizides, Des Burke, and Linda Conroy.   Thanks to all who provided wonderful appetizers, and special thanks to Kathy Loizides for coordinating a wonderful meeting.  It was great to see all of you the at the next meeting.

Inventory off to a Great Start

Thanks to the hard work, and enthusiasm  of members of Playcrafters, after many years our Costume and Prop storage area at the Christ Episcopal Church attic received an “extreme make-over”.  As we sorted and “retired” various items such as old curtains, props, and costumes, members of the “Clean Team” were treated to a mini history lesson of previous Playcrafters productions, and anecdotal information by Jane Love. Many thanks to Kathy Loizides, Kathie and Ward Gualtieri, Chrisa and Des Burke, Jane and Bill Love, Al Rand, and John Hannon, for giving up their Saturday morning to make this cleaning and realigning efforts a great success.

Theater Outing

On Sunday March 14th,members of Playcrafters attended the Production of “Godspell”  at the Clare Rose Playhouse at St. Joseph’s College.  This has been an ongoing initiative to show our support for other community theater productions (and hopefully receive the same support). If anyone has any suggestions for upcoming shows, or would like additional information of an upcoming date for a group attendance, please contact us at the Playcrafters telephone number (631-748-7863), or send us an email.

“SYLVIA”  --  The Spring Show for 2004

“Sylvia”, A.R. Gurney’s zany, touching and exuberant comedy, opens May 14th at our theatre space at the Bellport Middle School.  Greg and Kate have moved to Manhattan after twenty two years in the suburbs.  Greg brings home a dog he found in the park, bearing the name of “Sylvia” on her name tag. A street smart mixture of Lab and Poodle, Sylvia becomes a major bone of contention between Greg and Kate.

The show was first produced by the Manhattan Theater Club in New York City on May 2, 1995 with Sarah Jessica Parker playing “Sylvia”. The play is dedicated to her by Gurney, himself “with love and amazement”.

The talented cast of Playcrafter’s “Sylvia” includes Kim Esp, Ron Kagel, Linda McKnight, Marilyn Goodman, Charles Hunter, and Jane Maushay.  “Sylvia” is directed by Robert Kaplan, produced by Barbara Allen and John Hannon, and is presented by special arrangement with Dramatist Play Service.

Performance dates are May 14, 15, 21, and 22.  Tickets are priced $15.00 for adults, $12.00 for those under 18 or those 60 and over. Group discounts are available. Call 631-748-7863, for  tickets, reservations, or information.
