The Playcrafters Spring production of Steel Magnolias was
presented at the Bellport Community Center on March 4, 5, 11 & 12. The
show, smartly directed by Flo Federman, featured six first rate actresses who
squeezed every last laugh out of a script loaded with great dialogue. They
ultimately broke hearts in the final scene. Many audience members were
observed leaving with misty eyes. This production did Playcrafters proud.
In A Lifetime
George Loizides is directing a semi-staged concert reading of Kaufman and Hart’s hilariously zany 1930 comedy Once In A Lifetime. The play is a rollicking tale of three down and out vaudevillians who decide to head for Hollywood and try their luck with the newly invented sensation, talking pictures. Due to a series of consistent blunders, the dumbest of the three is carried to the height of success until he is made a god of the industry. It’s a fast paced wild romp and a marvelous spoof of tinsel town. Performances are September 16 & 17, 8:00 PM at the Bellport Community Center. Admission is free for members, $7 donation for others. (So renew!)
Margaret W. Smith scholarships were presented to three graduating seniors at Bellport High School on June 6. The very deserving winners were Alicia Blumenthal, Sean Burke, and Caitlin Francis.
the Board of Directors voted to present a special scholarship to Emily Conroy in
recognition of her long loyalty and devotion to Playcrafters.
Emily was graduated this year from Patchogue-Medford High School, and her
scholarship was presented at the meeting of the Board on June 20.
