Our New Theater Space

The Bellport Boys and Girls Club new building at 471 Atlantic Avenue, Bellport is nearing completion, and a ribbon cutting is being held on Tuesday August 14th at 10:00 AM.  All are invited to attend.

We are excited to announce our next play reading will be held in their new auditorium.

Playcrafters has already begun working with the Boys and Girls Club to develop their auditorium into a modern and fully functional theatre space that will be an asset and credit to the community.

Our Upcoming Reader’s Theater. . .Our Town

Playcrafters will be producing a dramatic reading of Thornton Wilder’s OUR TOWN directed by George Loizides. The reading will be presented on September 21st and 22nd, 2012 with 8-10 rehearsals beginning in mid August. Playcrafters is interested in creating a multi-cultural cast of both adults and young people. Interested actors should contact George Loizides by email at [email protected]. Audition readings will be held only for actors not known to Mr. Loizides. Others will be cast at his discretion. An audition will be held Wednesday August 15 from 7:00 to 9:00 PM in the auditorium at the new Boys and Girls Club building.

The story follows the small town of Grover’s Corners through three acts: “The Daily Life”, ”Love and Marriage,” and “Death and Eternity.” Narrated by the Stage Manager audiences follow the Webb and Gibbs families as their children fall in love, marry, and eventually—in one of the most famous scenes in the American theater—die. Touching on universal truths and feelings Wilder’s classic play is one of the most widely produced in the world.

The Sunshine Boys

Directed by Bob Kaplan

Playcrafters presented The Sunshine Boys, one of Neil Simon’s most hilarious plays, starring George Loizides, Peter Morrison, Lara Bowen, Amelia Chiaramonte, Christopher Fretto, and Kathryn Lerner, for 4 performances in May.

Capably directed by Bob Kaplan with his usual brio, the production was a critical and financial success, and broadly acclaimed for its compelling acting and fine set, costumes, lighting and sound.  We extend well-deserved kudos to all involved.  Check out photos from the show on our website.

Congratulations Seniors and good luck on your upcoming endeavors.

Grant Award

Theater Folk

We are sad to say good-bye for now to Lara Bowen.  Lara came to us in 2003 and worked back stage on crew until 2008 when she was no longer able to move sets and furniture, so as of 2008 she started acting in the shows.  She was serving on the Playcrafters’ Board of Directors but has resigned to pursue a PhD in Theater for Social Change.  We wish her all the luck! President Joseph Skelly has asked a veteran former board member, John Hannon, to serve out the remainder of Lara's term on the board, until the next annual meeting. If you have any items for Theater Folk, email Vicki at [email protected]
